Vikings Training Camp 2022: Top 5 takeaways from Day 4

QB3 improving, but not quite there yet
Earlier during training camp, it was stated that the backup quarterback position would be an open competition between Sean Mannion and Kellen Mond. That appears to still be the case, but the competition might be interesting from here on out.
Will Ragatz of Sports Illustrated recently shared that Mond hasn’t been very impressive during his camp so far but seems to have improved his mechanics and made a few plays with the football so far.
Sadly, mistakes have been made as well. Ragatz shared that Mond missed a few throws he should have made and had a snap go between his hands. Fluidity is missing from his game, and a mobile quarterback needs to have that smooth play style to succeed.
The good news for Mond is that the bar to beat Mannion is pretty low. The veteran still hasn’t won a game as a starter and he threw his first NFL touchdown during the 2021 NFL season. If it truly is an open competition, this one could go down to the wire.
