More updates on right guard

It sounds a little strange to be so interested in the battle for the starting right guard competition all training camp long, but seeing the horror that resulted from last year’s lack of talent should have fans hoping the Minnesota Vikings can fill the gap.

Good news came from camp today as Jesse Davis returned to the team on the field. He sat out yesterday and got some attention for his knee but was back in play on Saturday with a brace on his right knee according to Chris Tomasson on Twitter.

It appears as though Jesse Davis has the inside track on the starting right guard job thanks to learning the new system quickly. Tomasson shared that new offensive coordinator Wes Phillips chose him to run with the first team for that reason but is still evaluating talent.

It is still an open competition for the right guard position but it’s impressive how quickly Jesse Davis picked up the job duties so fast. There is still a lot of training camp and preseason left to evaluate the players, but it’s good to see the floor already being high for a new starter.
