It’s not only Andrew Booth Jr. that’s been making waves within the cornerback room.

Cameron Dantzler is the undisputed No. 1 option in this area of the field heading into the 2022 season. The performance levels over his first two seasons in the league have been encouraging to say the least and if further strides are made next season, the Minnesota Vikings would be wise to offer the former third-round pick a lucrative extension to keep him around long term.

Although very few players are having success covering Justin Jefferson, Dantzler is among those making his presence felt. His length and athleticism remain a significant asset and with some additional experience under the player’s belt, the sky is the limit.

Finding the right cornerbacks via the draft was a tough proposition under the previous regime. Many high-end selections didn’t work out long-term for a variety of reasons, but the Vikings have struck gold with the Mississippi State product and he is now a foundational piece to build around for future success.

Should Dantzler emerge as a true shutdown presence at the position and Patrick Peterson also makes a contribution despite his advancing years, then the Vikings have a solid base for an improved secondary. Something that would be further aided by the presence of perennial All-Pro Harrison Smith and first-rounder Lewis Cine on the backend.
