It won’t be long before the Minnesota Vikings begin what promises to be a fascinating 2022 season. The team’s training camp is well underway and most major moves have been finalized, with new head coach Kevin O’Connell looking to start his tenure on a high and get the franchise back to relevancy.
The Vikings weren’t that far away last season. Perhaps a fresh set of eyes and ideas is all it will take to see Minnesota occupy a playoff place once again.
They have talent all over the field. What’s important for O’Connell is finding the right formula that takes his team from also-rans into legitimate contention.
With this in mind, here are four ambitious goals the Vikings should aim for in 2022.
Ambitious Goal No. 1
Have a top-5 tackle tandem
Christian Darrisaw‘s encouraging end to his rookie season coupled with Brian O’Neill‘s ultra-consistent production means the Vikings have a long-term tackle tandem that can spearhead their quest for glory. Both players have the athleticism and mentality to become prominent features in 2022 and if they stay healthy, this could be one of the league’s best partnerships.
That might seem like a lofty ambition considering the wealth of talent across the NFL. But there’s nothing to suggest it couldn’t be possible if Darrisaw and O’Neill both reach the level expected.
This would be a significant asset to an offense that looks capable of great things under O’Connell next season. It should also provide Kirk Cousins with enough time to do considerable damage.
