Mond is actually being given a chance

Despite Kellen Mond being drafted by the previous Vikings regime, the young quarterback’s chances for success in the NFL increased significantly after the team hired Kevin O’Connell this year.

As a former NFL quarterback who spent his career fighting for a roster spot, O’Connell can use his experience and his offensive background to help Mond get the proper development.

After the first week of training camp practice, Mond still isn’t the clear favorite to land the No. 2 quarterback job behind Kirk Cousins. However, Minnesota is pretty much giving the young signal-caller every chance he needs to win the job.

Mond and Sean Mannion have been splitting reps with the second-team offense during the majority of this year’s training camp. Recently, however, the second-year quarterback seems to be slowly gaining an edge over Mannion.

The Vikings could definitely enter the regular season with three quarterbacks on their roster. But Minnesota is likely going to need their three preseason games this summer to determine who will end up as the No. 2 signal-caller on their depth chart.
