What are some major observations from Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins during the team’s 2022 training camp so far?
It’s been great to see the Minnesota Vikings during training camp practices, with a new regime keen to leave their mark on the franchise before things get serious in 2022. Kevin O’Connell’s refreshing new approach is obviously a welcome change of pace for the players, who are more used to getting put through the mill by Mike Zimmer and his old-school methods throughout the preparation period.
One player with more on his plate than most is Kirk Cousins. The polarizing quarterback will once again spearhead the Vikings‘ charge next season despite some speculation surrounding his future this spring, even if it was nothing but rumors rather than anything concrete.
Everything is seemingly in position for Cousins to thrive. There is also a less eventful offseason for the signal-caller to navigate after COVID-19 restrictions made life difficult for the unvaccinated last time around.
Without further ado, here are four major observations from Cousins’ time in training camp so far.
Major Observation No. 1
Kirk Cousins looks confident
Although Cousins is never going to have the swagger of a Cam Newton or Patrick Mahomes, there is a quiet confidence in the quarterback’s demeanor this summer. Perhaps reuniting with O’Connell and not having Zimmer breathing down his neck has a lot to do with it, but it won’t hurt Minnesota’s chances if performance levels improve as a result.
The Vikings are counting on Cousins to lead by example and become someone players look to for leadership and, more importantly, come through in the clutch when the game’s on the line. Something that the Michigan State product has been criticized for during his career to date.
Confidence is key. And the more of this Cousins can generate for the remainder of camp, the better.
