Johnny Mundt
If Johnny Mundt is the starting tight end this season, that means the Minnesota Vikings went with the “next man up” strategy at the position and believe they can get production from the former Rams player.
Mundt was praised for his blocking with Los Angeles but has yet to make an impact as a receiver In five seasons with the Rams, he has caught ten passes for 93 yards and has yet to score his first NFL touchdown.
With the Vikings, Mundt would primarily be a blocker but could be a check-down option with so many defenders likely keyed in on Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen. He wouldn’t be the same kind of threat after the catch as Irv Smith Jr. but could fill in if necessary.
The major benefit of using Mundt would be that no additional resources need to be used. No trades or free agent signings mean Minnesota gets to keep their capital and roll it forward toward other needs.
