Chazz Surratt – LB

Chazz Surratt was a third-round pick of the Vikings a season ago. He was taken for his high-end athletic ability and was also seen as a versatile piece that Mike Zimmer could move around his defense.

It didn’t take long for us to realize that Surratt would be having a very quiet rookie season. Word out of camp was he was struggling to pick up the defense and was running with the third team. There was some hope that a new defense would benefit Surratt and this would be the year he breaks out and lives up to that third-round billing.

When it comes to Minnesota’s inside linebackers, all the news out of camp has been about Eric Kendricks, Jordan Hicks, a little Troy Dye, and the fact that Ryan Connelly can’t get on the field. There hasn’t been a sniff about Surratt.

Either Surratt is looking just average, or he’s buried to the point where he isn’t getting significant reps. Whatever the case, his chances of making the team this year don’t look great.

The Vikings’ new regime may be saying goodbye to a couple of early picks from a season ago, and the silence regarding Surratt puts him squarely on that list.
