Wyatt Davis – OG

The one highly-touted guard out of Ohio State has quickly become an afterthought for the Vikings. Wyatt Davis is taking reps with the third-team offense and has been surpassed by Kyle Hinton within two weeks of practice.

Davis was a star at Ohio State but fell to the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft and could not climb a disastrous guard group in Minnesota as a rookie. The arrival of Ed Ingram was another sign that the coaching staff was not very high on Davis and his time in Minnesota seems to be coming to a quick end.

The Vikings have added plenty of bodies to the mix at guard this offseason through the draft and free agency. If Davis does get the ax, it will be another brutal blow to the 2021 draft class. There is a chance that three of the four third-round picks will not make the roster by their second season, which is embarrassing.

Unless there is a serious change from Davis over the course of the preseason, he is going to be one of the more disappointing Vikings in recent memory. The hype surrounding his selection at the time was worth it but he just has not produced or made any sort of positive impact.

With how bad the offensive line has been over the years, a player of Davis’ caliber should not have fallen this far down the depth chart this quickly. The Vikings have to hope for more from this regime to make up for the mistakes from the previous.
