P.J. Walker – QB

The Vikings are currently deciding whether Sean Mannion or Kellen Mond will be the primary backup for Kirk Cousins in 2022. While the former Texas A&M standout certainly looked like the better option during their first preseason game, a scenario could arise where someone else is targeted that isn’t on the roster currently.

P.J. Walker is someone that might be a hot commodity for teams looking for additional depth under center. The former XFL MVP candidate looks like the odd man out within the Carolina Panthers, with Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold fighting for the starting job and Matt Corral seen as the team’s long-term option.

Walker showcased what he might offer with an eye-catching performance at the Washington Commanders on Saturday. His arm strength is impressive and outstanding mobility allows the signal-caller to get out of some sticky situations for good measure.

There are some issues when it comes to decision-making, but Cousins is one of the league’s most reliable quarterbacks from a health standpoint, so Walker might not be tasked with anything more than practice involvement in any case.

This would be a damning indictment of Mond’s development. It’s also worth remembering that those in power have no emotional connection to him, so if they feel Walker or someone else provides them with a better contingency plan, it’s a realistic possibility.
