Vikings Game Sunday: Vikings vs. 49ers odds and prediction for Week 2 preseason matchup
By Adam Patrick
Kevin O’Connell will make his U.S. Bank Stadium debut as the new head coach of the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday against the San Francisco 49ers.
Even though they didn’t leave the field with a victory, the Minnesota Vikings looked impressive in their 2022 preseason debut last Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders. In the Vikings’ second-ever exhibition game with Kevin O’Connell as their head coach, they’ll host the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday at 6pm CT inside U.S. Bank Stadium.
As was the case last week, we should expect Minnesota to keep more than a handful of their most important players on the sideline on Saturday, including Justin Jefferson, Kirk Cousins, Dalvin Cook, Danielle Hunter, and Harrison Smith.
Will the Vikings be able to deliver O’Connell his first unofficial victory as the team’s new head coach this weekend or will Minnesota fall to 0-2 in his inaugural preseason with the franchise?

Minnesota Vikings vs. San Francisco 49ers prediction Preseason Week 2
Earlier this week, the Vikings and 49ers held a pair of joint practices at Minnesota’s TCO Performance Center. Considering the work that each team’s players were able to get in during the two days, we likely aren’t going to see many first-teamers out on the field from either squad on Saturday.
At the very least, this matchup against San Francisco will be a great opportunity for the Vikings to continue to get some good looks at some of the youngest players on their roster.
For Minnesota fans, most of the focus on Saturday will likely be on quarterback Kellen Mond, who had himself a solid performance last week in Las Vegas. Many will be watching on Saturday to see if Mond can create any significant separation between himself and Sean Mannion for the Vikings‘ No. 2 signal-caller job.
Preseason games are so incredibly difficult to predict, but since Minnesota is playing this contest at home, let’s just stay optimistic and say that they’ll leave the field with a win.
Prediction: Vikings win
