Zach Davidson – TE
As is the case with Chazz Surratt, Zach Davidson has had plenty of chances this preseason to prove to Minnesota’s coaching staff that he deserves a spot on the team’s final roster. Guard Kyle Hinton is the only other Vikings player to have more offensive snaps than Davidson during the team’s two exhibition games this year.
But just like with Surratt, Davidson hasn’t been able to take advantage of any of his opportunities. Instead, he’s literally dropped the ball, and his future in Minnesota is likely going to come to an end because of it.
During the Vikings’ first preseason game this year against the Raiders, Davidson only had one pass thrown his way, but he caught it for a 12-yard gain. But then in Minnesota’s second preseason contest against the San Francisco 49ers, the young tight end literally let his chances slip right through his hands.
Davidson was targeted four times in the matchup with the 49ers, and all four passes hit his hands. However, three turned into drops, and the only one he managed to haul in turned into a gain of just six yards.
Everyone has their bad days out on the field. But when you’re fighting for a roster spot like Davidson currently is, a performance like his against San Francisco is hard for a coaching staff to forget about.
