5 Bold Predictions: Minnesota Vikings vs. Green Bay Packers – Week 1
By Chris Schad
Adam Thielen will catch at least one touchdown
The Packers’ secondary should be a menacing force this season, but when it comes to Adam Thielen, all he does is catch touchdowns.
Thielen is tied for third in the NFL with 24 touchdown receptions over the past two seasons. Even more impressive is that Thielen has been a problem for the Packers’ defense, especially when he plays them at U.S. Bank Stadium.
Matt Anderson points out on Twitter that Thielen has 14 catches for 192 yards and three touchdowns over his past two games against the Packers at home. While neither of those games resulted in a win for the Vikings, there’s a good chance he could provide a similar performance on Sunday.
Justin Jefferson will steal the headlines as many assume he’ll be in the Cooper Kupp role. K.J. Osborn could be poised for a breakout season. Irv Smith Jr. could also be a factor in the passing game, but when Cousins is in the red zone, Thielen is his security blanket.
With a new system, Cousins will be looking for anything that gives him a sense of familiarity. If Thielen does his job, it could be a big day through the air.
