4 major observations from Kirk Cousins performance vs. Packers in Week 1
By Dean Jones
What were some major observations from the performance of Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins against the Green Bay Packers in Week 1?
Kirk Cousins and the Minnesota Vikings have a huge sense of expectation on their shoulders in 2022. After a positive offseason period overall, it was time for the signal-caller to lead from the front during an important regular-season opener against the Green Bay Packers at U.S. Bank Stadium.
Cousins penned a one-year extension before training camp, which ties him to new head coach Kevin O’Connell for at least two seasons. The pair enjoyed a profitable working relationship during their time together previously in Washington, which has smoothed the transition to a different way of thinking where the quarterback is concerned.
The Packers weren’t going to go down without a fight, but they were blown away by Cousins and the Vikings during a phenomenal display that will live long in the memory.
With this in mind, here are four major observations from Cousins’ performance in Week 1 versus Green Bay.
Major Observation No. 1
Kirk Cousins came out with real intent
There was no bedding-in period for Cousins right out of the gate. He came out with real intent, setting the tone with outstanding distribution to put Minnesota in the ascendancy during a whirlwind spell to begin proceedings.
This was all the Vikings needed to assume command. Something they did not relinquish during one of the most dominant opening day performances in a long time.
It’s just one game. But this was a tone-setting start from Cousins and the Vikings that put the entire NFC on notice.
