4 major observations from Kirk Cousins performance vs. Packers in Week 1
By Dean Jones
Are Kirk Cousins and the Vikings set for big things?
Week 1 of the NFL season always comes with overreactions and delusions of grandeur across the league. We’ll need a much bigger sample size from the Vikings before truly determining their aspirations in 2022, but they couldn’t have been any more impressive against the Packers.
Yes, Aaron Rodgers doesn’t possess the benefit of Davante Adams to lean on after he was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders. It’s also worth remembering that Minnesota’s fierce rival was thumped by the New Orleans Saints on opening day last year before winning the division comfortably.
However, this just felt different.
Kirk Cousins looked reenergized. Free from the shackles of Mike Zimmer and ready to remind the NFL exactly what he’s capable of with a newfound freedom to express himself.
There was an added sense of composure in the pocket and confidence from his teammates. This became evident across the stands once fans realized they were witnessing something truly special.
Just what this means in the grand scheme of things is anyone’s guess. Minnesota has the talent to go deep into the postseason if everyone stays clear of injuries and in terms of laying a successful foundation, it doesn’t get much better.
Cousins was outstanding, assisted by an outstanding scheme and supporting cast. Long may it continue.
