Randall Cunningham
- Vikings Tenure: 1997-1999
- Eagles Tenure: 1985-1995
Following an impressive career with the Eagles where he set the NFL on fire as a dual-threat quarterback, Randall Cunningham was convinced by the Vikings to come out of retirement in 1997.
It wound up being a great decision for both him and for Minnesota.
Cunningham didn’t see the field much for the Vikings in 1997, but he was the team’s starter when they upset the New York Giants in the wild-card round of the 1997 playoffs.
Then the 1998 season happened. Cunnigham replaced an injured Brad Johnson in the middle of Minnesota’s second game and he never looked back after that.
The veteran quarterback went on to have arguably his best season in the NFL as he helped lead the Vikings to a 15-1 record and an appearance in the NFC Championship. Cunningham will forever be remembered by Minnesota fans for being a big part of their great success in 1998.
He stuck around with the Vikings in 1999, but the team wasn’t able to capture the same magic they had on the field in 1998. He left during the 2000 offseason and spent another two years in the league before he retired for good in 2002.
