Minnesota Vikings Week 3 injury report: Key defender ruled out vs. Lions
By Adam Carlson
The Minnesota Vikings will have a chance to rebound after a disappointing loss to the Eagles and they will need to do it without a longstanding defender.
For Week 3 of the 2022 NFL season, the Minnesota Vikings will host the Detroit Lions at U.S. Bank Stadium in what could be a very competitive division matchup. Sadly, the purple and gold won’t be at full strength for the game on Sunday.
Since the team currently has a record of 1-1, winning to keep ahead of average teams is important for staying ahead of the curve when it comes to a potential spot in the postseason or winning the division.
The official injury report was released on Saturday, Sept. 24 on the official website of the Vikings. Here are the players who have already been ruled out as well as those who are in danger of missing action in Week 3.
Minnesota Vikings
Out
- Andrew Booth, CB – Quad
- Harrison Smith, S – Concussion
Questionable
- Eric Kendricks, LB – Toe
Harrison Smith is a mainstay of the Vikings and it will be weird not seeing him on the field. However, it does mean Lewis Cine could step into a bigger role until Smith can clear concussion protocol.
Minnesota’s defense would take another big hit if Eric Kendricks can’t suit up. The experience he and Harrison Smith offer would be missed
Detroit Lions
Out
- John Cominsky, DE – wrist
- Jonah Jackson, G – finger
Questionable
- T.J. Hockenson, TE – hip
- Aidan Hutchinson, DE – thigh
- Frank Ragnow, C – foot
- D’Andre Swift, RB – ankle
While the Vikings have a lot of experience and depth on their injury report, the Lions have young starters questionable in addition to starting right guard Jonah Jackson being ruled out. Drew Forbes could fill in for him.
Be sure to check out the Minnesota Vikings when they take on the Detroit Lions on Sunday to find out if the purple and gold can bounce back after their big loss to the Eagles.
