Josh Metellus – S
Filling in for future Hall of Fame safety Harrison Smith is not an easy task for anybody to take on. Third-year safety Josh Metellus was given this task in Week 3, and the former Michigan Wolverine did a fine job in his first career start.
Metellus filled the stat sheet against Detroit, tallying 11 tackles, two pass breakups, and one interception, which won Minnesota the game.
This impressive performance was backed up by PFF, as Metellus received the second-best defensive grade for the game on Minnesota’s roster. Not a bad game at all for your first start.
With many people calling for 2022 first-round pick Lewis Cine to get the start, Metellus had a lot of pressure on him to perform well in Week 3.
But his play against the Lions only quieted the doubters, and he made some of them into supporters of his as well. Even though Smith may return for the Vikings’ next game, Metellus deserves his praise for his outstanding week.
