Irv Smith Jr. was responsible for the drop heard around the Viking world last week in Philadelphia. If he would’ve caught that ball the outcome of the game could’ve been much different. We’ll never know for sure, but we were all hoping to see Smith bounce back with a solid game against the Lions. Instead, we saw another drop.

The Vikings offense was struggling to find its groove on Sunday against the Lions. They did a great job of bottling up Justin Jefferson and Kirk Cousins was forced to find other options in the passing game. On a crucial play sometime during the second half, Cousins laid out a perfectly thrown ball to Smith, and again it went right through his hands.

This wouldn’t have been the explosive play that the drop against the Eagles would have been, but it would’ve gone for a first down and kept the Vikings’ offense on the field.

Smith’s biggest knock has been his health and not his hands. The fact his hands are beginning to become an issue this season is more than just a little concerning.
