Cine’s injury could be a blessing in disguise

There’s no other way to describe it. The ankle injury suffered by Vikings rookie safety Lewis Cine during Sunday’s game was gruesome.

Cine will now undergo surgery in London to repair his ankle before returning to Minnesota to be with the rest of his teammates. It is highly unlikely that we will see the rookie back on the field for the Vikings again this season.

While his inability to play will be disappointing, Cine now has the opportunity to put a lot of his focus into learning Minnesota’s defensive scheme. Some have believed that his lack of defensive snaps this year was due to him not being able to pick up the scheme as quickly as his coaches would have liked.

So now that he likely won’t be able to suit up for a game until 2023, he can hit the books and the film room to figure out what his role will be in the defense. If Cine wants to be a starter in his second season, then he needs to take full advantage of the next few months and learn as much as he possibly can about the Vikings’ defensive scheme.
