Cam Bynum – S

The Vikings’ defense allowed the hapless Bears offense to come back from a 21-3 deficit to take a 22-21 lead late in the game. They couldn’t get to Chicago quarterback Justin Fields and allowed the young quarterback to have his best game of the year, as he was able to find open receivers against the soft shell defense Ed Donatell loves to employ.

One defender who really has failed to impress this season is safety Cam Bynum. Bynum just doesn’t do much back there at his safety position.

He seems to always be a few steps late in coverage, always allowing the receiver to make the grab in front of him. He also rarely is able to bring his man down, either missing the tackle or best case, holding on long enough for help to come.

Bynum had just one tackle against the Bears in another underwhelming performance. It’s a little surprising the Vikings haven’t started giving some of his snaps to Josh Metellus, who played extremely well when he started in place of Harrison Smith. The Vikings’ secondary needs some big plays, and it’s time for Bynum to deliver.
