2022 Team: Dallas Cowboys

Running back depth is certainly not something the Vikings are lacking this year. But when it comes to the 2023 offseason, Minnesota’s running back room could look a lot different.

Currently, Dalvin Cook and Alexander Mattison are the top-two players on the Vikings’ running back depth chart. In 2023, however, it’s possible that both could be elsewhere as Mattison is scheduled to become a free agent next year and Cook’s contract becomes much easier to get out of after the current season.

Whether the Vikings keep Cook or not, they’re likely going to need a replacement for Mattison. If Minnesota doesn’t believe that Kene Nwangwu or Ty Chandler can handle Mattison’s old job, then the team might turn to free agency in 2023 for help.

Tony Pollard is a guy who could add a lot to the Vikings’ offense next year and he likely wouldn’t cost a significant amount. Pollard has been the No. 2 running back for the Cowboys during the last four seasons and he’s been successful in this role with 12 total touchdowns and a 5.9 yards per touch average.

It’s possible that another team in the NFL could offer Pollard a starting job in 2023, but if not, Minnesota should see if they can convince him to come sign with the purple and gold.
