Greg Joseph – K

Vikings kicker Greg Joseph has had an up-and-down 2022 season. He has made some big kicks, but he also has had his fair share of misses. He was named the Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 4 when he hit five field goals against the New Orleans Saints in London, only to follow it up by missing two kicks against the Chicago Bears in Week 5.

Joseph didn’t miss any field goals against the Dolphins, but he did miss an extra point. His miss came at a crucial moment, and it would’ve allowed Miami to take the lead if they scored two touchdowns instead of tying the game. It also gave momentum back to the Dolphins at a moment when they should’ve been reeling and ready to tap out.

The Vikings have been in a lot of close games this season, and one of the reasons these games go down to the wire is that their kicker is missing attempts and leaving points off the board. On the season, he’s hitting just 69.2 percent of his kicks. That is an unacceptable number.

The problem for Minnesota is that they aren’t going to find many better options on the free-agent market, and they may just have to start going for it on fourth down in the future instead of allowing Joseph to attempt a kick of 50 yards or more.
