In his first road game against his former team, will quarterback Kirk Cousins lead the Minnesota Vikings to a win over the Washington Commanders?

A lot will be made this week about Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins returning to the home stadium of the Washington Commanders for the first time since he left the franchise in 2018. But Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell will also be going up against the team that employed him from 2017 to 2019 as their quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator.

Cousins and O’Connell will lead a 6-1 Minnesota team into FedEx Field to take on a Washington team that currently has a 4-4 record after getting wins in each of their last three games.

Will the Vikings extend their winning streak to six, or will the Commanders leave their home stadium with an unexpected Week 9 victory?

Minnesota Vikings vs. Washington Commanders prediction Week 9

For the last two weeks, the Commanders have been led by quarterback Taylor Heinicke, who began his career in the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Vikings in 2015. Heinicke hasn’t been lighting it up in the stat sheet in Washington’s last two games, but he’s given their team a new sense of confidence after leading them to come-from-behind wins against the Green Bay Packers and Indianapolis Colts.

Minnesota absolutely cannot take this kid lightly. If they do, Heinicke will hand the Vikings a loss just like he did to the Packers and Colts.

That being said, Minnesota is superior to the Commanders in several ways heading into Sunday’s matchup. It would come as a pretty big surprise if the Vikings didn’t extend their winning streak to six games in Washington this weekend.
