Kirk Cousins vs. Washington (Week 8 in 2019)

While Kirk Cousins is going to play in Washington this weekend, this won’t exactly be his first revenge game against his former team. His first played at U.S. Bank Stadium ranks second on the list of best revenge games in recent Vikings history.

For Cousins, the 2019 season had treated him well. Up until the matchup with Washington, the Vikings were 5-2. Similar to the 4-2-1 start the team had the previous season, but that record was followed by a loss, the Vikings were looking for victory this season.

When looking for victory and a possible 6-2 start to the year, the cherry on top wasn’t just the fact Cousins was playing his old team, but it was who he was competing against, too.

Former Vikings players Case Keenum and Adrian Peterson were part of the 2019 Washington roster, and the former of the two was making their return to the stadium where they threw the Minneapolis Miracle touchdown pass.

Peterson had already played Minnesota before, a loss while he was a member of the New Orleans Saints in 2017. But to be able to get the first win off your old team, with their old quarterback, and against your current team’s once-hoped franchise quarterback was the goal for Washington.

Keenum left the game early with a concussion and was replaced by the late Dwayne Haskins, but neither quarterback could get the job done against Minnesota.

Cousins and Minnesota sealed the deal against Washington to the tune of 19-9. It was a game validating the move from Keenum to Cousins, and it paved the way for the Vikings’ first playoff appearance since the 2017 season.

Beating your former team at home is great, but going to their stadium and shutting them up is even better. This leads us to the No. 1 revenge game in recent Vikings history.
