There’s a possibility that former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Case Keenum could get the start under center in Week 10 for the Buffalo Bills if Josh Allen can’t suit up.
Case Keenum will always have a soft spot in the hearts of Minnesota Vikings fans for the magic he provided the franchise in 2017. But in Week 10, Keenum could be looking to break the hearts of Vikings fans as a member of the Buffalo Bills.
Minnesota is scheduled to take on the Bills this upcoming Sunday, and currently, the status of Buffalo starting quarterback Josh Allen for the contest is a bit up in the air.
Allen hurt his elbow in Buffalo’s Week 9 loss to the New York Jets and no one is really sure how severe the injury is yet. If the Bills decide to rest him in their non-conference matchup with the Vikings this week, Keenum would get the start against his former team.
What are the chances of Case Keenum starting for the Buffalo Bills vs. the Minnesota Vikings?
With a 6-2 record after the first nine weeks of the season, Buffalo has their eyes set on capturing the No. 1 seed in the AFC playoff bracket. If they’re going to do that, they’re going to need Allen’s help.
At the same time, the Bills would likely prefer Allen to be healthy for this season’s playoffs than to risk further injury in a non-conference game this week that probably won’t have much of an impact on the playoff standings in the AFC this year.
Plus, it’s not like Buffalo is taking on a team with a weak pass rush either. Minnesota is the home of the reigning NFC Defensive Player of the Month in linebacker Za’Darius Smith, and the Vikings are coming off of a game in which their defense generated 23 pressures against the Washington Commanders, according to PFF.
The Bills just allowed Allen to get sacked four times in their loss to the Jets last week, so are they going to subject him to another afternoon of possibly running for his life against Minnesota?
Allen is likely going to push to play against the Vikings, as it doesn’t sound like his injured elbow is too severe. However, the smart decision for Buffalo would probably be to sit their top quarterback this week and let Keenum start against Minnesota instead.
If this happens, we could see Keenum and Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs working together to try and defeat a Vikings organization that gave both of them one of the best moments of their NFL careers.
