The Minnesota Vikings have been making the most out of Kirk Cousins’ recent contract extension. Here’s why he could receive another one.

After the Minnesota Vikings extended Kirk Cousins this past off-season, success has come quickly. Win after win, Cousins and company have shown that the Vikings will remain to be a threat come the postseason.

From a 7-1 record, to a shirtless quarterback iced out in chains, this has been the most vibrant  Cousins the Vikings have seen out of the veteran, and it’s come at perfect timing. With a new head coach and general manager, a lot of uncertainty had faced Minnesota before Week 1 against the Packers.

Since then, the uncertainty has been gone and while Cousins isn’t throwing 300-plus yard games each week, he’s on a winning football team that has his back.

After years of a revolving door at quarterback, the Vikings committed to Cousins by giving him the league’s first fully-guaranteed contract in 2018. From there, the team committed to safety by extending the signal caller.

But this season is different, and now that Minnesota has a much more approachable take on their football team, it’s carried to their quarterback, creating a case where Cousins has earned another contract extension to grant his wish of being able to retire in purple and gold.

If Cousins and the team continue to ride this wave of momentum they are on, extending him seems more and more likely. His contract expires at the end of next season, leaving the team to make a move sooner than later.

With the signal caller winning games and wearing chains, here are four reasons the Vikings might extend Kirk Cousins in 2023.
