No. 3 – Chemistry with Justin Jefferson

Another reason why the Vikings could extend Kirk Cousins is his chemistry with star wide receiver Justin Jefferson. Since being drafted by Minnesota, Jefferson has put up record-breaking numbers and has served as an all-around wide receiver with a deep-threat ability for the signal caller.

With Jefferson and the passing game becoming the focal piece of the offense, as opposed to years past of Dalvin Cook and the running game, Minnesota may elect to keep what they have of the chemistry between the wideout and Cousins.

Jefferson had chemistry with Joe Burrow in LSU, and Cousins has shown the ability to benefit from a wide receiver with speed, such as Desean Jackson in Washington. While either seems to be flexible, the Vikings may not want to disrupt their chemistry.

Since arriving in Minnesota, Jefferson has racked up 3,833 yards and 20 touchdowns and can be a force to be reckoned with every Sunday, and Minnesota or even Jefferson may not want to part with the quarterback who has worked with them to achieve those numbers.

Add in the addition of T.J. Hockenson, the Vikings have provided Jefferson company to take a defenses sole focus off the wideout, which can only benefit Cousins as well, adding to the chemistry they’ve already had.

With talented youth to pair Jefferson with, the numbers he’s put up with Cousins could be a great factor in keeping the signal caller in the Twin Cities past 2023.
