Game officials have admitted to a mistake that could have been costly for the Minnesota Vikings in their Week 10 win over the Buffalo Bills.

After the Minnesota Vikings took an improbable lead with less than a minute remaining in their Week 10 matchup on Sunday, the Buffalo Bills had very little time to erase a three-point deficit.

With 24 seconds left in the fourth quarter, the Bills were facing a 2nd-and-2 from their own 40-yard line. After receiving the snap, Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen fired a pass to the left sideline to wide receiver Gabe Davis.

At first, the pass to Davis was ruled a catch by the game officials. Usually, a play like this in the final seconds of a matchup is reviewed in the replay booth. However, the officials surprisingly decided not to review the catch, and Buffalo was allowed to run another play without any stoppage.

The Bills went on to gain enough yards to put their kicker, Tyler Bass, in field-goal range. Bass nailed a 29-yard field goal, and the game went to overtime.

Luckily, the Vikings were still able to come out on top in overtime. Otherwise, a mistake like the officials made on the Davis “catch” could have come back to haunt them.

Following Minnesota’s win on Sunday, the NFL’s Senior VP of Officiating, Walt Anderson, admitted that the 20-yard reception by Davis in the fourth quarter should have been reviewed, and it should have been ruled an incomplete pass.

Thankfully, the Vikings were able to defeat Buffalo despite this egregious mistake by the game officials. It would have been a huge disaster and controversy had Minnesota not been able to get a win over the Bills.

So not only did the Vikings manage to overcome a 17-point deficit to a very talented Buffalo team on Sunday, but the purple and gold also overcame a glaring mistake by the game officials.

The refs almost cost Minnesota fans from possibly experiencing another celebration from Kirk “Kirko” Cousins on the plane ride home from a road victory, and that would have been unforgivable.
