Rookie cornerbacks

It’s not super fair to put in a couple of rookies on this list who are getting their first real sniff of NFL playing time but we are going to go there. Akayleb Evans and Andrew Booth Jr. were thrust into action against a very dangerous receiving corps with an elusive, strong-armed quarterback tossing them the ball.

That was the task put forth for these young rookie corners and not surprisingly they struggled. Stefon Diggs is one of the best route runners in the entire league and he was extra motivated going against his former team. He didn’t have much trouble creating space and fooling the young cover men with his sudden footwork and quickness out of his breaks to the tune of 12 receptions and 128 yards. Gabe Davis is no slouch either and he also could do pretty much whatever he wanted against the younglings racking up six catches for 93 yards and a score.

It was a very tough test for the two rookies and while they had plenty of bad moments they did have some bright spots. Evans racked up six tackles before getting concussed and also forced a fumble. Booth had two tackles on the day but was much looser in coverage than his fourth-round counterpart.

Overall, it was great experience for the young corner tandem, and one they’ll learn from. The silver lining to the whole thing is that the Vikings still got the win.
