When one examines the Vikings, boosting the wide receiver position wouldn’t be among the most pressing priorities. But finding a successor for Adam Thielen at some stage could be an option depending on how the draft plays out early.

This is not expected to be a strong class of wide receivers emerging from the college ranks in 2023. Even though the talent pales in comparison to what we’ve witnessed take the NFL by storm in recent years, there are a few exciting prospects worth keeping a close eye on during the assessment process.

One such individual is Parker Washington, who has similar skills to Thielen in terms of making things happen over intermediate routes and boasting the football IQ to generate yards after the catch.

Some inconsistent quarterback play at Penn State this season has hurt Washington from a statistical standpoint. But that should not detract from what improvements the player could make once he gets to the next level.

Washington’s vision and smooth route-running allow him to create separation almost at will. He is strong enough to absorb contact and also has the speed to make things happen in the open field.

Minnesota might wait until 2024 to strengthen this area. But if they decide to move forward with Kirk Cousins beyond his current contract, getting as many weapons as possible is a necessity.
