Blake Brandel – OT

Blake Brandel came in for relief of Christian Darrisaw during the Bills game. He played well in that contest and then got the start the following week against the Cowboys. He, like the rest of the Vikings’ offensive line, looked horrible in that one.

He bounced back well against the Patriots, holding his own against a very solid defense. His game against the Jets wasn’t as bad as his one against the Cowboys, but it wasn’t very good.

Brandel did have a very tough draw going against Quinnen Williams. He’s one of the best defensive linemen in the league, with an impressive blend of speed and power. He proved to be far too much for the backup offensive tackle to handle. Brandel was often on the ground, reaching and grasping to get a hold of Williams as he stormed toward Kirk Cousins.

Brandel’s performance was a big reason why Kirk Cousins took so many hits in this game. Luckily. the Vikings’ quarterback is tough as hell and was able to bounce back from every one of them. Hopefully, Darrisaw is back out there soon, so the Vikings don’t have to worry about Brandel getting blown up and allowing Cousins to take a beating.
