Week 18

Minnesota Vikings at Chicago Bears

There are a lot of unknowns in Week 18. If the Vikings make the postseason and clinch their seeding by this point, then it makes absolutely no sense to play established figures just one week before the playoffs begin.

This would be a grave error of judgment by the coaching staff, who need all their top guys fit and firing on all cylinders if they want to legitimately enter the Super Bowl discussion. Simply put, risking them with nothing at stake against a physical Chicago Bears team is simply not an option.

If the Vikings go down this route, it will likely have an impact on the overall outcome. But that should be the last thing on Kevin O’Connell’s mind if the result has no impact whatsoever on their playoff standing.

Prediction: Loss (12-5)

Things might be teetering on a knife edge for the Vikings. But any fan that wouldn’t have taken a 12-5 record before the campaign is kidding themselves.

It’s been more good than bad during O’Connell’s first season at the helm. And the Vikings boast plenty of experienced figures with postseason accomplishments across their roster that should stand them in good stead.

Losing at the Detroit Lions was a blow, but not the end of the world. However, what comes next for Minnesota is of critical importance.
