The Minnesota Vikings got their 11th one-score victory of the 2022 season on Saturday when they were able to defeat the New York Giants inside U.S. Bank Stadium.
If Minnesota Vikings fans were hoping for a drama-free win over the New York Giants on Saturday, unfortunately, their Christmas wishes were not fulfilled. However, Vikings fans can still be happy with their favorite team since they were able to leave the field with a 27-24 win over the Giants.
Thanks to a 61-yard field goal by Greg Joseph as time expired in the fourth quarter, Minnesota escaped Saturday’s NFC matchup with their 12th win of the season, which also happened to be their 11th one-score victory of the year.
With the win, the Vikings are now sitting with a 12-3 record, and they’re still in control of the No. 2 seed in the NFC standings.
Multiple Minnesota Vikings records set in Week 16 win over New York Giants
Joseph’s 61-yard field goal not only gave Minnesota the win on Saturday, but it also set a new franchise record as the longest field goal ever converted by a Vikings kicker in a game.
In addition to Joseph setting a new franchise record, Minnesota wide receiver Justin Jefferson and tight end T.J. Hockenson also got in on the record-setting action against New York.
After hauling in 12 catches for 133 yards and one touchdown, Jefferson’s totals for the 2022 season increased to 123 receptions and 1,756 yards, both new single-season Vikings records.
Hockenson also had himself an impressive day with 13 catches for 109 yards and two touchdowns. His 13 receptions against the Giants also set a new Minnesota all-time record for the most catches in a single game by a tight end.
Thanks to the record-setting performances by these three players, the Vikings are still in contention to finish the 2022 season as the top seed in the NFC.
