Green Bay Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander called the Week 1 performance from Minnesota Vikings wide receiver “a fluke” on Thursday.

After the Minnesota Vikings handed his team a 16-point loss back in Week 1, Green Bay Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander complained that he wasn’t given the opportunity to cover Justin Jefferson 1-on-1.

Upon further review following the matchup, it was revealed that Alexander actually did have a chance to cover Jefferson 1-on-1 during the contest, and he proceeded to fail miserably.

Green Bay Packers CB Jaire Alexander calls Week 1 performance from Minnesota Vikings WR Justin Jefferson “a fluke”

During the regular-season opener against the Packers, Jefferson had himself a career performance, hauling in nine catches for 184 yards and two touchdowns.

Most would consider these numbers impressive. But apparently, Alexander believes Jefferson got lucky against Green Bay back in Week 1. Just listen to what he had to say on Thursday.

“First game, that was a fluke.” Yes, Alexander actually said that about a wide receiver who is currently 209 yards away from breaking the NFL’s single-season record for receiving yards.

Has Alexander been paying attention at all to what Jefferson has been doing out on the field this year? It certainly doesn’t sound like it.

It’s not like Minnesota‘s star receiver needs any extra motivation heading into Sunday’s showdown in Lambeau Field. But whatever, now if Jefferson goes off against the Packers, they can all blame Alexander for everything.

There’s a difference between confidence and foolishness and what Alexander said on Thursday could lead to an ultra-motivated Jefferson this weekend. Just what Green Bay wanted as they fight for their playoff lives.
