Kiffin rumored to be a head coach candidate
Following the decision by the Vikings to move on from Mike Zimmer as the team’s head coach, one of the early names that popped up as his replacement was current University of Mississippi head coach Lane Kiffin.
The rumor about Kiffin as a possible head coaching candidate for Minnesota came from PFF’s Brad Spielberger. He classified the college coach as an “outside the box candidate” for the Vikings.
Apparently, this was a rumor that had spread pretty wide as Michael Ryan Ruiz of “The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz” also claimed last January that he “truly Lane Kiffin is probably going to be the head coach of the Minnesota Vikings.”
Obviously, nothing came of this rumor for Kiffin or the Vikings, as the Ole Miss head coach didn’t even get an interview with Minnesota during their search for a Zimmer replacement.
Instead, the Vikings hired former Los Angeles Rams offensive coordinator Kevin O’Connell as their new head coach, and Kiffin remained at Mississippi.
