Minnesota was a “sleeper” to trade for Watson

As the Vikings were still in the middle of trying to hire a new general manager and head coach, there was already plenty of speculation about what the team’s roster might look like for the 2022 season, especially at the quarterback position.

Despite the controversy surrounding Deshaun Watson, Minnesota was labeled as the “biggest sleeper” in the “sweepstakes” to acquire the quarterback in a trade with the Houston Texans.

The rumor came from The Score’s Jordan Schultz and he claimed that Watson was willing to “consider” waiving his no-trade clause to land with the Vikings. Schultz also claimed that Minnesota was interested in trading for the young signal-caller because they didn’t believe Kirk Cousins was a “Super Bowl-caliber quarterback.”

In the end, no deal for Watson was ever made between the Vikings and Texans, and the quarterback was traded to the Clevland Browns in exchange for multiple draft selections, including three first-round picks.

With Minnesota winning the NFC North and the Browns not qualifying for the playoffs this season, the Vikings clearly made the right choice by not making a deal for Watson last year.
