Panthers laugh about Cousins rumor

Speculation about whether the Vikings were going to keep or trade Kirk Cousins was at a very high level last year. Cousins’ name was involved in multiple trade rumors, including one that had to do with the Carolina Panthers.

According to SKOR North’s Judd Zulgad, the Panthers reportedly made a call to Minnesota last February about possibly making a deal involving Cousins. Zulgad also reported that the conversation between Carolina and the Vikings “went nowhere,” as the Panthers were likely just attempting to see what it would cost to acquire the veteran quarterback in a trade.

Shortly after this report gained some traction around the league, the Charlotte Observer’s Jonathan M. Alexander shared that some within the Panthers organization “laughed” about their rumored interest in Cousins.

Looking back, Carolina probably wishes they had made a better effort to trade for the Vikings quarterback since the Panthers wound up firing Matt Rhule as their head coach during the middle of the 2022 season, and they failed to earn a spot in the playoffs. At this moment, they’re probably not laughing much.
