Following a win by the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, the Minnesota Vikings will take on the New York Giants in the first round of the 2022 playoffs next week.

Thanks to the San Francisco 49ers stomping all over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, we now know that the Minnesota Vikings will begin their 2022 playoff journey with a rematch against the New York Giants inside U.S. Bank Stadium next week.

With their win over the Cardinals, and the Philadelphia Eagles also defeating the Giants, San Francisco clinched the No. 2 seed in the NFC playoff standings. This means that the Vikings will enter the postseason as the No. 3 seed in the NFC and take on New York in the Wild Card round of the postseason.

As the No. 3 seed in the NFC, Minnesota is only guaranteed to host one game in their home building during the playoffs. The Vikings could end up playing in more than one home matchup in the postseason, depending on how things go around the conference, but nothing is guaranteed past the first round.

Minnesota Vikings to open 2022 playoffs against the New York Giants

For the first playoff contest on their home field since the 2017 season, Minnesota gets to take on a Giants team that they defeated less than a month ago.

Back in Week 16, the Vikings escaped a Christmas Eve matchup with a 27-24 win over New York, thanks to Greg Joseph making a 61-yard field goal as time expired in the fourth quarter.

Despite the fact that Minnesota needed a last-second field goal from Joseph to clinch the victory, they were in control for the majority of the Week 16 game against the Giants. During the contest, the score was tied or the Vikings had the lead for more than 50 of the 60 minutes in regulation.

So Minnesota should have a good amount of confidence during the next week as they prepare to take on a New York team that has just two wins in their last eight games.
