DVOA and point differential are fun stats, but not the most important one

It’s funny to look back at all the fans of other teams who used stats like DVOA ad season point differential to “prove” the Minnesota Vikings are “frauds” and wouldn’t make any noise this season.

The best part is looking at how many of those other teams measured against Minnesota won’t be participating in the playoffs this year when the Vikings are preparing for the Wild Card round of the postseason.

Sure, it would have been great if the Vikings won their games by more points, but getting the win was the most important part of the equation. Finishing with a 13-4 record is much better than outscoring their opponents by 40 and finishing 8-9.

People say that stats and numbers don’t lie, but they can definitely be manipulated to reinforce one side of an argument without being entirely relevant to the conversation. Congrats to the Minnesota Vikings on 13 wins in a year with a new head coach, offense, and defensive scheme.
