The Minnesota Vikings have reportedly started their search for a new defensive coordinator by requesting to interview Brian Flores.

News of the Minnesota Vikings moving on from defensive coordinator Ed Donatell is still fresh in the minds of fans but the team seems to be preparing to find his replacement early in the offseason.

It is being reported that the team has requested to interview Brian Flores, senior defensive assistant & linebackers coach of the Steelers and former Dolphins head coach for the vacant position.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport shared the news on Twitter and even gave a connection between Flores and head coach Kevin O’Connell.

Flores has a ton of coaching experience on the defensive side of the ball and was a scout in New England. He has been in the NFL since joining the Patriots in 2008 as an assistant on special teams and worked his way up the coaching ladder.

His firing and the behavior of Miami’s brass when he was the head coach of the Dolphins is still a controversial topic, but the 41-year-old is a four-time Super Bowl champion and has a record of 24–25 as a head coach but shouldn’t bring any drama with him.

There was no doubt that major changes were needed for the 31st-ranked defense of the Minnesota Vikings this offseason and requesting to interview some of the best possible candidates is a great start to the process. It will be interesting to see which other individuals the purple and gold pursue to be their next defensive coordinator moving forward.
