5 free agents the Vikings should aggressively pursue in 2023
By Dean Jones
Cameron Sutton – CB
Solving the complex riddle at the cornerback position is something the Minnesota Vikings haven’t done effectively enough. This has to change if they want to build on Kevin O’Connell’s impressive first season at the helm.
Andrew Booth Jr. and Cameron Dantzler should progress further this offseason. But fans might have seen the last of veteran Patrick Peterson, who is out of contract and demonstrated clear signs of regression throughout the campaign.
While bolstering their options via the 2023 NFL Draft is almost guaranteed, adding a capable veteran with proven credentials would provide immediate assistance. Someone like Cameron Sutton, for example.
Sutton has the best year of his career by a considerable margin, giving up just 47.9 percent of targets and a 65.3 passer rating when targeted. This came at just the right time with a contract extension on the horizon.
If the Pittsburgh Steelers have any sense, they will give Sutton the financial security he’s seeking. If he hits the market, then the Vikings should be among the first teams on the phone with the player’s representatives.
Things cannot continue in a similar fashion on defense next season. Not if the Vikings want to tighten their grip on the division and become major players in the Super Bowl race.
