Jonathan Mingo – WR (Ole Miss)

The Vikings are definitely going to add a wide receiver at some point in the 2023 NFL Draft. If they wait until about the round three range, then they should look at Jonathan Mingo out of Ole Miss.

Mingo is a big, stoutly built receiver. He’s got a thick lower half that would definitely get Minnesota special teams coach Matt Daniels excited, but he’s also got broad shoulders and long arms. Mingo uses that frame to go up and pluck the ball out of the air even with a defender draping him.

He has very sure hands, almost like he dipped them in tree sap. Mingo doesn’t have impressive top-end speed, but he is dangerous with the ball in his hands and shows good vision and patience as a runner. He’s also an excellent blocker and that will get him on the field quickly as a rookie.

The issues that could cause Mingo to be available in the third round are his lack of elite deep speed and a lengthy injury history.

While those are legitimate concerns, Mingo’s strengths are something that currently isn’t on the Vikings’ wide receiver depth chart. He would fit in nicely as a chain mover and red zone target, making defenses respect him every time he lines up across from Justin Jefferson.
