John Michael-Schmitz – C (Minnesota)

One prospect who made himself a ton of money down in Mobile was Minnesota Golden Gopher John Michael-Schmitz. He was absolutely dominant the entire week, shutting down pass rushers in the individual drills and standing out in the game itself.

Michael-Schmitz just does everything well. He’s tough, he’s physical, and he moves extremely well. He can anchor against big, powerful defensive linemen in pass protection, but also has the athletic ability to lead around the edge when he’s pulling, or to quickly get to the second level.

The Vikings could be in the market for a new center. It does seem likely they are going to resign Garrett Bradbury but if some other team gives him a contract he can’t refuse, the Vikings could turn to the draft.

Prior to the Senior Bowl, Michael-Schmitz was seen as a mid-second-round pick or even a hair lower. After his impressive week, he’s now solidified himself as a first-round talent and if Minnesota wants him, they may have to pull the trigger at pick No. 23.
