Which Minnesota Vikings players could benefit most from Brian Flores becoming defensive coordinator in 2023?

After a lengthy search, the Minnesota Vikings have their new defensive coordinator. Brian Flores might not have been the team’s first choice, but he’s a fantastic appointment that should get this once-proud unit trending in the right direction.

Minnesota’s defense was an absolute abomination last season. Their flaws were exposed constantly and after another dismal effort in the wildcard round loss against the New York Giants, previous coordinator Ed Donatell paid with his job.

Despite losing preferred candidate Ejiro Evero to the Carolina Panthers, hiring Flores could be a tremendous piece of business. He boasts previous head coaching experience and knows how to successfully run defenses having held key positions with the Pittsburgh Steelers and New England Patriots.

Some significant reinforcements are needed on all levels. But here are four Vikings players that could benefit most from Flores’ arrival in 2023.

After a relatively anonymous rookie campaign, Patrick Jones II flashed as a rotational piece in 2022. However, this offseason is an important one for the defensive end heading into Year 3 of his professional career.

Jones has the explosiveness to carve out a bigger role for himself provided he does enough to impress Flores. The defensive coordinator’s worked with some outstanding pass-rushers throughout his time in the league, so he’ll know exactly how to take the Pittsburgh product’s game to new heights.
