5 reasons why the Vikings should consider trading Kirk Cousins in 2023

Minnesota’s championship window belongs to Justin Jefferson
With most teams, the quarterback is the most popular position on the team. Making sure that teams take advantage of their “championship window” is at the top of any general manager’s priority list and for the Vikings, getting Kirk Cousins to a Super Bowl has been the main goal.
But times are changing and they may not be able to win a Super Bowl thanks to the construction of the team.
The Vikings need to make decisions on several veterans this offseason and there’s a chance that several of them could be let go. For each player they cut, they have to find a worthy replacement.
In some cases – such as Adam Thielen, Eric Kendricks, and Dalvin Cook – that should be easy. Letting go of Za’Darius Smith, Danielle Hunter, and Harrison Smith could unleash a project that will take more than one season. As we mentioned, Cousins doesn’t have a lot of time to win a title but the Vikings’ current roster situation doesn’t favor his chances of winning it in Minnesota.
That should turn everyone’s eyes to Jefferson. With the need to maximize the prime of his career, the Vikings need to find an infrastructure that can help him win the Super Bowl. Cousins has done well to get Jefferson off to a blazing start to his career, but he has just one playoff appearance (and a first-round loss) to his credit.
The Vikings need to start building around Jefferson and now is the time to do it.
