Jared Allen still waiting for his call to join the immortals in Canton
By Adam Patrick
Former Minnesota Vikings defensive end Jared Allen was not among those that were selected to enter the Pro Football Hall of Fame as part of the 2023 class.
For the second year in a row, the selection committee for the Pro Football Hall of Fame still doesn’t feel former Minnesota Vikings defensive end Jared Allen is worthy of getting his own bronze bust inside their facility in Canton, Ohio.
It’s disappointing for Allen, who has been a finalist in each of his first two years of Hall of Fame eligibility. Despite being one of the best pass rushers to ever step on an NFL field in the history of the league, the former Vikings defensive end will have to wait at least one more year before finding out whether or not he’ll be getting his own gold jacket from the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Who is entering the Pro Football Hall of Fame over former Minnesota Vikings DE Jared Allen in 2023?
Allen was one of 15 modern-era finalists for the 2023 class, but unfortunately, he was not among the five former NFL players that were selected.
Getting inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame this summer instead of Allen will be former New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis, former Cleveland Browns offensive tackle Joe Thomas, former Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive back Ronde Barber, former Miami Dolphins linebacker Zach Thomas, and former Dallas Cowboys pass rusher DeMarcus Ware.
In addition to these five modern-era inductees, the rest of the 2023 Hall of Fame class includes former Cowboys linebacker Chuck Howley, former Jets defensive tackle Joe Klecko, former Bengals cornerback Ken Riley, and former San Diego Chargers head coach Don Coryell.
Does Allen deserve to have a spot over any of the five modern-era selections? A case can certainly be made for a few of them, but the selection committee clearly felt differently, and one of the best pass rushers in Minnesota history now has to wait even longer to get his eventual call from Canton.
