Irv Smith Jr., tight end

Fans have to be sick and tired of hearing about the potential Irv Smith Jr. can offer an offense. It seems like hype built around him leading up to every season and it all fell apart as the season went on.

It would be easy to blame his struggles on his multiple injuries, but even when he was healthy, he failed to make a significant positive impact on the outcome of games this season despite being given opportunities.

Sadly, fans will remember him best for an early season drop on a potentially momentum-changing play, but it was a lot more than that. He just never became the player the Minnesota Vikings hoped he could become.

182 yards and two touchdowns on 25 catches in eight games aren’t going to move the needle. His injury prompted the team to trade for T.J. Hockenson from the Lions, likely ending Smith’s time with the team.
