7 free-agent cornerbacks the Vikings could sign in 2023

Marcus Peters
2022 Team: Baltimore Ravens
The Vikings’ 2015 draft class was one of the greatest in NFL history, but it could have been even better if they had taken Marcus Peters over Trey Waynes. The Vikings had their reasons for taking Waynes in that draft, but those who have lamented that decision could have their validation if Peters signs with Minnesota.
Peters got off to a slow start in 2022 after coming back from an ACL tear. While he struggled at times, he had his best game of the season in a Wild Card matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals, allowing 40 yards and a forced incompletion on six targets.
At 30 years old, signing Peters could sound similar to the Vikings’ signing of Peterson two years ago. But Peters has shown the ability to remain effective in man coverage, allowing an 85.9 passer rating on 136 man-to-man snaps.
With 35 career interceptions, Peters could be a good veteran presence for the Vikings’ secondary, but the question is how much he will cost. The answer is somewhere between Over The Cap’s $3 million evaluation and PFF’s $7 million projection, but if the price is right, the Vikings should kick the tires.
