Matt Gay

2022 Team: Los Angeles Rams

Any time a former Rams player becomes available, Vikings fans should take notice. There are plenty of former Rams coaches on the Vikings staff, including head coach Kevin O’Connell, so if someone comes available that he’s familiar with, it does make sense to take a deeper look.

Matt Gay is coming off of two very stellar seasons. He hit 94.1 percent of his field goals in 2021, and in 2022 he hit 93.3 percent of his attempts. He also made 98 and 96.9 percent of his extra points, so he is definitely more reliable than Greg Joseph.

Gay is still relatively young at 28 years old. He’s also got one of the stronger legs of the kickers mentioned here, hitting from 58 yards multiple times. It’ll be interesting to see what kind of market there is for him. He may be one of the spendier options out there, but he’d give the Vikings a steady presence at the position for the next handful of seasons.
